Iveco has unveiled the first road‑ready eDaily that charges itself up remotely as it drives. The electric van will be deployed by A35 Brebemi, an Italian toll road connecting Brescia and Milan, part of Aleatica group.
The inductive charging system was developed to work with Brebemi’s infrastructure, a network of coils beneath the road surface to transfer energy directly to electric vehicles (EVs) above them.
It is an important milestone in a journey that Brebemi began several years ago with Arena del Futuro, continued through the start-up VoltAtire, attracting the interest of manufacturers.
Marco Aimo-Boot, vehicle electrification transmission and distribution innovation and advanced engineering at Iveco Group, said: “After nearly a year of testing wireless charging in both static and dynamic modes on the equipped ring at the A35 Brebemi ‘Arena del Futuro’ site – with highly positive results – we seized the opportunity to prepare a new eDaily equipped with the DWPT (dynamic wireless power transfer) system.
“Our ambitious goal is to extend static charging functionality to compatible public sites.”
