Moto Hospitality is set to quadruple its EV charging capacity while establishing a network of high-powered superhubs specifically for electric HGVs.
This forms part of the motorway services firm’s plans to invest more than £500m across its nationwide estate, following the landmark agreement of new 75+ year lease extensions with the Department for Transport and National Highways, at 10 Moto sites.
The extensions enable Moto to continue its programme of site redevelopments and EV infrastructure upgrades designed to meet changing travel demands and to provide support for the Government’s net zero ambitions for UK transportation.
Moto already has EV charging at its motorway services. The firm works with partners Gridserve and Tesla to lead the roll-out of superfast chargers across the motorway network and has branched out to become a charge point operator itself.
Under the new blueprint, Moto plans to significantly increase the number of EV charging hubs across its sites, having already launched more than 1,000 ultra rapid charging bays in the past five years. The company said it now has a clear ambition to quadruple its number of EV charging bays over the coming years. It also has a roadmap to 15 eHGV superhub sites with up to 100 bays, providing critical infrastructure that will unlock electric freight growth for the UK economy, alongside plans to further enhance facilities for HGV drivers.
Ken McMeikan, CEO of Moto Hospitality, said: “This planned investment is fantastic news for our customers as we continue to upgrade existing facilities, provide even greater choice of food and drink brands, provide world-class EV charging infrastructure and open new motorway service areas and truck stops.”
