RHA welcomes road improvement funding for Wales

The RHA has welcomed a Welsh Government announcement to invest in measures to improve roads and reduce potholes.

This comes after ministers pledged an extra £25m to renew Wales’ major roads and prevent around 30,000 road defects and potholes.

The Welsh Government says the funding boost will see an extra 100km of the strategic road network resurfaced in the new financial year. Roads that are most in need of repairs will be renewed, with thousands of potholes fixed, they added.

Martin Reid, RHA Policy Director for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, said:

“This is a welcome commitment from the Welsh Government to improve the quality of our major roads.

“We have suffered with decades of infrastructure underinvestment which has left us with the legacy of a road network which isn’t fit for purpose and keeping Wales at an economic disadvantage with other parts of the UK.

“Better maintained roads can help reduce frustrating and costly delays and boost the economy.”

Meanwhile, we continue to work with ministers on solutions to improve conditions on our roads for lorries, coaches and vans.

The Welsh Government has committed to establishing a Logistics & Freight Delivery Group following a meeting between the First Minister and RHA colleagues in November.

We’re campaigning for major investment to reduce significant congestion on the M4, A55 and other roads; more safe and secure parking; support for #decarbonisation and commitments to help the industry attract heavy vehicle mechanics – particularly for coaches.
