Qualitech Environmental Services has taken delivery of two new Volvo FM Globetrotter 8x4 Tridem rigids, equipped with ADR-certified Disab vacuum tanker bodies. The vehicles are believed to be the first of their kind operating in the UK.

The Saint Helens-based business will use the new trucks to move heavy waste materials, often hazardous, from customer sites across the UK.

Danny Casey, managing director, said: “The Volvo chassis is the perfect fit for the heavy-duty Disab equipment we needed to get on the back. These ADR-certified units are very specialist bits of equipment, unique in our industry. The support we’ve had from the team at Volvo has been fantastic throughout the build process and we are delighted with the finished product.”

The trucks are powered by Euro-VI compliant D13K Step E engines, producing 500hp and 2500Nm of torque. Driven through Volvo’s proven 12-speed I-Shift transmission, the trucks benefit from a hydraulic steered tag axle which improves manoeuvrability and also helps reduce tyre wear.

Qualitech opted for a high chassis specification with rear air suspension to aid ground clearance when working off-road.

The Globetrotter cabs of the new FM rigids are painted in Millenium Silver Metallic and complemented with the company’s orange signwriting that was completed by Vinyline Signs & Graphics.
