The seventh-generation Transporter is available in panel van, Kombi, Shuttle and double-cab chassis variants, all either as standard or long wheelbase. When order books open in January 2025, the Transporter will be available in three diesel and two electric powertrains, with a plug-in hybrid drive (eHybrid) arriving in 2026.
Key highlights include a 1.33-tonne payload, an increase of 0.13 tonnes more than the previous model, and a 10% increase in maximum stowage volume to 5.8cu m. Volkswagen has also increased the maximum trailer weight (braked with 12% gradient) of this version from 2.5 to 2.8 tonnes for the mid- and high-powered diesel panel van. Meanwhile, maximum dynamic roof load has grown from 150kg to 170kg.
The new Transporter also gets a redesigned cockpit that delivers a new ‘ergonomic high-tech workplace’, combining digital displays and controls with physical keys to help avoid driver distraction. It also incorporates various USB-C and USB-A ports, with the option to add up to three (plug-in hybrid and electric models only) 230V sockets and a 12V socket in the D-pillar.
And there’s a 5+ Promise warranty and service plan included as standard, which includes five services, five years’ warranty and five years’ roadside assistance.
Three trims will be on offer – Commerce, Commerce Plus, Commerce Pro – all designed to offer high levels of equipment. The electric version is only available in Commerce Plus and Commerce Pro.
The Panel Van Commerce TDI is kitted out with rear wing doors and a sliding door on front passenger side. It also features 16-inch steel wheels, LED headlights with separate LED daytime running lights, power-adjustable and separately heated exterior mirrors, six-way adjustable driver seat, with manually adjustable two-way lumbar support, multi-function steering wheel, 12-inch driver display and 13-inch infotainment screen with wireless app connect and DAB radio.
There’s also predictive cruise control system with a speed limiter, rear parking sensors and keyless start.
The Commerce Plus TDI variant also throws in body-coloured bumpers, wing mirrors and door handles, steel spare wheel, leatherette-wrapped multi-function steering wheel, front and rear mud flaps and keyless start with Safelock. It also gains parking sensors front and rear, rear-view camera and an anti-theft alarm system with interior monitoring, backup horn and towing protection.
