Tyre deal extends Michelin tie-up with British Gas

Michelin’s Agilis CrossClimate tyre will be fitted to 2,500 new British Gas vans, extending a decade-long partnership. The all-season tyres are credited with improving uptime, winter response and fleet productivity across its 8,000 vehicles.

The all-season Michelin Agilis CrossClimate tyre is being specified for 2,500 new vans that will be joining the British Gas fleet soon, as the utility firm extends its relationship with the tyre maker.

The 8,000-strong fleet has fitted tyres from Michelin’s CrossClimate family since 2015. It introduced the Agilis CrossClimate van-specific product in 2018, after the original CrossClimate fitment exceeded expectations on the fleet’s smaller car-derived vans.

Rob Simister (pictured), director of fleet operations at British Gas parent company Centrica, said: “We rely on Michelin to get our engineers to callouts in all weathers. That’s especially important in the winter months when it’s essential that we get to customers quickly if their boilers have broken down and left them without heating.”

British Gas has continued to benchmark Michelin’s all-season tyre against rival products during the past 10 years, only to find nothing else delivers the same combination of traction, longevity and versatility.

“There’s also a productivity gain for us, as we avoid the downtime that would be associated with swapping from winter to summer tyres each year, which lowers the cost of management and helps us deliver the highest levels of service,” said Simister.
