Transport chiefs are being warned of the true cost of speeding fines for van and truck drivers, which can be significantly higher than the fine itself.

When costs such as insurance implications, admin burden, downtime and indirect productivity losses are added, the financial burden can be a heavy one.

Now a new Fleet Fine Calculator has been designed to give fleet operators a powerful new way to understand the true financial and operational impact of speeding.

The tool is designed specifically for commercial transport and logistics businesses.

Launched by Ooono, the road safety tech firm behind the Co-Driver alert system, the

solution goes beyond simple penalty values to quantify the full cost of speeding incidents, including fines, insurance implications, admin burden, downtime and indirect productivity losses. It also gives details of potential savings that can be made if fleets use Ooono’s Co-Driver No2.

A typical UK speeding offence may result in a £100 fine and penalty points, but Ooono’s analysis shows the real cost to fleets is significantly higher once operational disruption and risk exposure are factored in. The Fleet Fine Calculator allows operators to input fleet size, driver behaviour assumptions and incident frequency to generate a tailored risk profile for their business.

Mike Skyte, spokesman for Ooono, said speeding isn’t just a compliance issue – it’s a cost and safety issue that compounds across an entire fleet.

“The Fleet Fine Calculator helps businesses see the bigger picture: not just what a fine costs today, but what repeated risk behaviour costs over time in operational efficiency, safety outcomes, and reputational impact.”
