The latest arrivals mean that 35% of the 250-strong commercial vehicle fleet is now Volvo-supplied – a significant increase since it returned to the manufacturer in 2020.
Slam Transport’s units each feature a D13TC Euro-6 Step E engine, producing 460hp and 2,600Nm of torque, benefited by turbo-compounding technology. This allows drivers to maintain lower revs and a higher gear for a longer time for a more fuel-efficient journey.
Also included in the I-Save package is Volvo’s predictive cruise control system, I-See, which analyses and adapts to gradients in the road ahead and I-Cruise with I-Roll, which adjusts speed to further optimise fuel consumption.
Additional fuel economy gains are unlocked by roof and cab side air deflectors, as well as Volvo’s 12-speed I-Shift automated gearbox.
Slam Transport is closely monitoring the performance of the new vehicles using Volvo Connect, which combines a host of digital and connected services via one portal.
Each of the new trucks is equipped with a Globetrotter cab that includes a lower fixed bunk with a semi-firm pocket sprung mattress, a luxury sleeper control panel, generous storage compartments and a 33-litre fridge/freezer.
Also featured are Volvo’s Visibility+ and Drive+ packages. These include items such as the V-Shaped LED headlights that automatically adjust to ambient light conditions, electrically heated and operated mirrors, an adjustable steering wheel with neck-tilt and dual armrests on the driver’s seat.
