This year, Brake has chosen to spotlight the importance of safe vehicles that are designed to prevent crashes and to cause less harm if they do crash. From automated driver assistance systems that help drivers keep within speed limits and brake in an emergency, to seat belts and airbags, this year’s campaign will focus on how modern vehicle safety technology can reduce road death and injury.
Brake will also raise awareness of how to make sure vehicles are roadworthy to ensure optimum safety for drivers.
Brake will also call on the Government for life-saving technology to be mandated for all new vehicles in the UK, in line with regulations that have now been introduced in the EU and Northern Ireland.
It has been estimated that these safety measures could prevent more than 1,700 deaths and 15,000 serious injuries over 16 years if the full package of measures was implemented in Britain, and save up to £7bn in health costs.
2025 Road Safety Week is sponsored by Autoglass, Hastings Direct, Motive and Samsara.
