Morris Commercial has unveiled its latest pre-production Morris JE electric van, marking a major milestone for the revival of the historic British automotive brand.

Alongside the vehicle’s debut, the company confirmed its official industrial roadmap, pointing toward pilot production in 2027 and commercial-scale production in 2028.

The unveiling comes after the UK-based automotive engineering and manufacturing start-up secured the rights to the Morris Commercial brand name and announced plans back in 2019 to revive the iconic Morris J-type van as a 21st century electric commercial vehicle.

Since then, the company says it’s made substantial progress across engineering validation, manufacturing planning and strategic technology ownership, including the acquisition of Prodrive Composites capabilities.

Inspired by the classic 1950s Morris J-Type, the new JE combines timeless design, advanced electric technology and sustainable materials to create a commercial vehicle unlike anything else on the road today, according to the maker.

Positioned as ‘a personal statement, a brand in motion and a platform for identity’, the vehicle targets premium retailers, hospitality brands and artisan operators looking to use their delivery fleet as a marketing and storytelling tool.

Beneath its vintage aesthetic, the JE features a highly-advanced, lightweight architecture engineered alongside global suppliers. It’s built on the world’s first recycled carbon-fibre monocoque commercial vehicle body, designed to be lightweight and sustainable.

Payload capability is up to 1,000kg at 2,500kg GVW, while cargo volume is up to 6.0cu m and Morris Commercial promises an unparalleled capacity to footprint ratio.

Range will be up to 300 miles, while charging capability will deliver 20% to 80% in 30 minutes, with a super-fast 10-minute option.
