The result surpasses the manufacturer’s own previous record by nearly 1.5 mpg and sets a new benchmark for real-world fuel economy in 44-tonne operations.
Previously, the Volvo FH 460 with I-Save held the title of the most fuel-efficient 44-tonne tractor unit, achieving 9.82 mpg in 2022. However, the Volvo FH Aero 6x2 Globetrotter XL that completed the course this time took things to a new level.
“Volvo didn’t just break its own record – it absolutely smashed it,” said Will Shiers, editor of Commercial Motor. “The FH Aero has proved its fuel-efficiency credentials and now stands clear at the top of our fuel test rankings.”
Commenting on the test, Christian Coolsaet, managing director of Volvo Trucks UK & Ireland, said: “This result is a testament to Volvo’s unwavering commitment to progress and sustainability. The FH Aero represents the next generation of long-haul transport – combining world-leading efficiency with premium driver comfort and cutting-edge design. Every litre of fuel saved helps reduce emissions, improve fleet performance, and support our customers on their journey to a cleaner and greener future.”
