Redpath Tyres, one of the largest specialised tyre distributors in the UK, has switched its service van fleet to the Michelin Agilis CrossClimate product, after the all-season fitment delivered unrivalled traction and impressive longevity.

Based in Duns in the Scottish Borders, the business has 13 sites across Scotland and the north of England. It is the only Michelin accredited vulcanised repair centre in Scotland, serving bus and coach contracts, as well as large quarries, which means its 48-strong van fleet often faces challenging conditions, on and off road.

“Traction is the key thing for us and the Michelin Agilis CrossClimate has proved to be the absolute best when it comes to this,” said Max Redpath, director at the business.

The backbone of the van fleet are Mercedes-Benz Sprinters and MAN TGEs, typically wearing 235/65 R16 and 205/75 R16 tyres. Following a decision to adopt a Michelin policy two years ago, around 90% of the fleet are now fitted with CrossClimates, with OEM supplied alternatives being upgraded when they reach the end of their service lives.

Redpath Tyres’ hardworking vans will typically average between 45,000 and 50,000 miles a year. The Michelin all-season tyre has proved to be up to the challenge, underlined by a set on one vehicle in Aberdeen that has legally achieved 61,000 miles to date.
