It’s also played a vital role in Mercedes-Benz Vans’ portfolio: the commercial Vito and eVito account for nearly a quarter of the brand’s sales.
With the arrival of the first generation, Mercedes-Benz introduced a new van in the 2.6- to 2.8-tonne class in 1995. The front-wheel-drive van had a payload of one tonne and a cargo area of 3.6 cu m provided a loading capacity of almost 5 cu m.
For the second generation, the entire concept for the Vito was redesigned. All variants now relied on rear-wheel rather than front-wheel drive. A payload of up to 1,295kg and an all-wheel-drive variant added to the diversity.
In 2014, the third generation celebrated its world premiere. This was followed in 2018 with the launch of the eVito, the first fully electric midsize van produced in series by Mercedes-Benz. In 2020, a new update brought many technical advances then next upgrade came in 2024. The MBUX multimedia system brought modern infotainment, improved connectivity and new digital extras for a further increase in comfort. As a result, the Vito and eVito are integrated into the brand’s digital ecosystem. The safety features were further improved and expanded, for example with the Active Brake Assist with cross-traffic function and the Active Lane Keeping Assistant.
