Fresh training module helps drivers understand new safety systems

Concern has been voiced recently by road safety organisations about whether or not some van and truck drivers understand how to use vehicle safety systems properly. A lack of such knowledge renders these safety advances little more than useless.

To help combat this problem, a new module teaching how to master driver-assistance technologies is now available from E-Training World.

The new training educates drivers on the different forms of vehicle technology, how they work and how they can be used safely. It also reminds drivers that they are still responsible for driving safely.

Advances in vehicle technology are helping drivers become safer on the roads, thanks to features such as collision warning systems, lane departure alerts and automatic emergency braking. However, many drivers are unclear about how all the technology works and an increasing reliance on automated systems is making some complacent. The new module tackles this to help drivers get to grips with the technologies.

Graham Hurdle, managing director at E-Training World, said: “Modern vehicles are increasingly complex. While driver assistance technologies are designed to keep drivers and passengers safe, as well as other drivers, road users and pedestrians, there is growing concern that vehicle technology is becoming an increasing distraction and a collision risk.

“No technology should replace your responsibility to drive safely. Drivers must still remain alert and vigilant at all times. Vehicle technology can act as an extra set of eyes looking out for you, but it should never replace a driver’s own observations, concentration and judgement.

“Our new module explains how these technologies work, but also reminds drivers that just because a vehicle has safety features does not mean the driver is no longer responsible for how they drive.”
