Despite the undeniable fact that using telematics is a surefire way of improving the safety and efficiency of any commercial vehicle fleet, only 18% of van fleets currently do so.
But according to the latest Arval Mobility Observatory Barometer, UK van fleets are now showing a growing appetite for telematics technology, with more than a third (35%) of businesses saying they are considering adopting it within the next three years.
John Peters, head of Arval Mobility Observatory in the UK, said: “What we are seeing here is a relatively high level of current usage for telematics at slightly less than one in five car and van fleets, but a very high level of interest for the future.
“We believe there are probably a number of trends powering this, from wanting to use the technology to help control costs and maximise operational efficiency, through to a growing awareness of the potential of emerging connected vehicle services.”
The research showed that UK adoption of telematics is higher than both the European (14%) and global (15%) averages, with similar levels of intent to adopt.
Peters said: “The UK does tend to make more use of fleet technology than most other countries. But the differences being seen for telematics are not too dramatic. They suggest that telematics is having an impact for fleets just about everywhere.”
