Volta Zero electric truck production to start again

Steyr Automotive to resume Volta Zero electric truck production after Volta's bankruptcy, securing its future.

Manufacturers

Production of the Volta Zero electric truck is to be continued after the firm filed for bankruptcy late last year. The 16-tonne truck’s fate has been hanging in the balance but now Austrian manufacturer Steyr Automotive has announced it has signed a preliminary agreement to continue the production of the vehicle.

The business started series production of the truck in April 2023 before Volta’s battery supplier went bust in the summer. Steyr Automotive has now issued a statement, saying:

We are pleased with the signing of the agreement as, for us, it represents an important milestone for the return to production in this crucial business sector. Our team is highly motivated to bring the innovative truck to the road together with our partner Volta Commercial Vehicles.

With a battery capacity of 150-225 kWh, depending on specification, the Volta Zero returns a real-world pure electric range of 95-125 miles on a single charge. The Volta Zero has also achieved a benchmark score for Direct Vision and was awarded a five-star rating.
