Fuel savings clinch it for Volvo’s Hallam truck deal

The trucks join an already predominately Volvo operation, with the Swedish manufacturer making up the majority of Hallam Express’ 60-strong commercial vehicle fleet which includes both tractor units and rigids.

David Simpson, managing director, Hallam Express, said:

We’ve trusted Volvo Trucks for over three decades because its vehicles consistently deliver exceptional performance and reliability. The new FH Aero model promises to take our fuel efficiency to the next level, which is crucial for our operation. Our drivers are thrilled with the advanced features that enhance both safety and the overall driving experience.

The new trucks feature a Euro VI-compliant D13TC Step E engine, producing 460hp and a peak torque of 2,600Nm, paired with a 12-speed I-Shift automated gearbox and I-See predictive cruise control to yield significant sustainability benefits.

The FH Aero’s fuel economy potential is extended through the truck’s aerodynamic design, with the cab 24cm longer than the standard Volvo FH. The specification also includes an array of new technologies that help to reduce energy consumption and emissions reductions by up to five per cent.

This includes Volvo’s Camera Monitoring System (CMS) which replaces traditional exterior mirrors. The solution increases the driver’s field of view, while performing strongly in rainy and dark conditions, direct sunlight and even when driving in tunnels. In the vehicles’ Globetrotter cabs, drivers have access to a fridge and microwave oven, as well as the FH Aero’s built-in navigation system which features improved maps adapted to truck-specific needs and benefits from automatic map updates.
