Having previously entrusted its HGV supply to a different marque, the Hastings-based operator initially decided to explore Volvo’s turbo compound technology thanks to a recommendation from a nearby fellow haulier. And the vehicles have made an immediate positive impact.
Lynton Manser, director, Dobbs Logistics, said:
We’d heard excellent first-hand feedback about Volvo’s I-Save package. When the time came to bring some new models onto the fleet, Volvo was one of the key contenders on our list and soon after our initial discussions, we quickly concluded that it was time to try something new.
So far, that decision has proved the correct one – though the trucks have only been with us a short while, they’re already yielding as much as two extra miles per gallon versus the tractor units they replaced. Across their time with us, that should result in a significant cost saving that certainly won’t go unnoticed.
Equipped with a 12-speed I-Shift automated transmission, the new Volvo FH with I-Save trucks feature a D13TC Euro-6 Step E engine, delivering 500hp and a peak torque of 2,810Nm. Intelligent software, including Volvo’s map-based predictive cruise control, I-See, and I-Cruise with I-Roll, enhance fuel efficiency further.
The vehicles also benefit from impressive interior specification – in addition to a heated and suspended driver’s seat and leather upholstery, a Drive+ package adds dual armrests, electrically controlled air conditioning and an adjustable steering wheel with neck tilt. The Globetrotter XL cabs also include a 33-litre fridge/freezer, two bottle holders and a 50mm premium mattress protector.
